The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 that represents over 89,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services nationwide, is seeking an Assistant Director, Continuing Education to join our Convention and Meeting Planning Team located in our Headquarters office in Schaumburg, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
Supervising two direct reports and reporting to the Convention & Meeting Planning Division Director, this key position is responsible for the Continuing Education (CE) programs, serving as staff for committee/volunteer work, and participating in promotional and marketing initiatives. The Assistant Director is responsible for the development and execution of continuing education events and programs for AVMA members and stakeholders including the annual AVMA Convention and Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC) educational programs. This includes faculty-led and virtual education, management of abstracts, budget evaluation, vendor management, and development of new programs. They will work collaboratively with AVMA staff and volunteer leadership to develop educational programs designed to increase member engagement and satisfaction.
BS/BA degree in a related field or equivalent experience is required; MS in Adult Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or Business Administration strongly preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of progressive and proven professional responsibility for the execution and project management of CE programs or related activities, preferably in an association setting. Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills are essential. Must have experience in curriculum delivery, development and evaluation; and demonstrated practical application of successful adult learning practices and techniques with strong program and project leadership/management with the ability to identify and adopt technology to enhance educational programs. Experience or coursework in experiential learning, e- learning, assessment and evaluation and management of large databases strongly preferred. Must be highly organized and have great attention to detail with strong analytical and problem solving skills. Up to 10% travel.
