Director of Sales and Services

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

 

The Director of Sales and Services (DoSS) is charged with managing revenue goals, maximizing facility use, and assuring customer satisfaction. The DoSS leads a team that is responsible for the sales, services, and marketing components of the Convention Center. The results of their efforts ensure the Baltimore Convention Center provides a positive economic impact for the City of Baltimore. This position partners closely with Visit Baltimore to drive business to Baltimore. All actions of the DoSS must be in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Baltimore Convention Center and the City of Baltimore. The DoSS is a senior management position, is considered essential personnel, and reports directly to the Deputy Director.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Sales and Marketing

Develops an annual Sales and Marketing plan and implements strategies to achieve set objectives for the Convention Center

 

Manages a sales team that is responsible for cultivating and booking prospects for short term business (18-months or less) of any size, and working with Visit Baltimore to secure city-wide events that utilize the Center

 

Approves of all public communications

 

Coordinates the sales efforts of various service partners (Catering, A/V, Telecom, Utilities) to ensure a seamless process on behalf of the Center

 

Facilitates the issuance of all contracts, proposals and addendums, makes recommendations on contract revisions, and approves final event billing

 

Participates in the development of national and local sales activities with Visit Baltimore, as well as independently, to promote the facility for future business

 

 

Develops, implements, and oversees marketing strategies or tools which include but not limited to: website design and content, social media presence, informational literature, and promotional campaigns

 

Oversees and evaluates market research and adjusts marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions

 

Represents the Center on sales missions, industry conferences, educational seminars, and meetings as required, both locally and out-of-town

 

Services

Oversees the management of a team of Convention Service Managers that are responsible for the implementation of all events booked at the Center

 

Supervises the coordination of site inspections for both prospective and booked business

 

Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of event service procedures for the planning, implementation, and close-out of Center business

 

Participates in all client meetings as required

 

Senior Management

Participates regularly in senior staff meetings and contributes to the overall vision, goals, and priorities of the Center

 

Establishes and maintains relationships with industry leaders and key strategic partners including active membership in industry associations

 

Hires, trains, develops, evaluates employees within the department

 

Enforces all Center and City policies and procedures and works with the DHR when disciplinary action, including termination of employees as necessary

 

Ensures staff is scheduled according to the needs of the facility and events

 

Analyzes and reports statistical data to determine effectiveness or need for change

 

Assists in budget preparation and controls expenditure of department to conform to budgetary requirements

 

Performs other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director and may be required to act in place of the Deputy Director

 

Participates actively as a staff liaison of the Visit Baltimore/BCC Board of Directors

 

Must be on call 24 hours a day as well as included on the rotating Director-on-Duty schedule Other duties as assigned or required

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to relate to clients and business in professional manner

 

Ability to evaluate, control and execute crisis management skills as needed

 

Ability to coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions

 

Excellent administrative, supervisory, oral and written communication skills

 

Superior organizational skills Thorough knowledge of building operations, event execution, and other related industry information

 

Ability to implement strategic marketing strategies while staying within a budget

 

Computer literacy and proficiency in standard office programs as well as typical sales and marketing programs and applications

 

Ability to determine client requirements and effectively communicate them

 

Maintains a high profile and professional image at all times

 

Ability to act as a public relations liaison for the facility

 

Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
