The City organization operates under a contract model with 28 full-time employees who manage contracts for many of the high-quality services provided to residents. The City is a Council/ManagerCity with five Council Members elected at large. This model provides fiscal stability and enables the City to respond quickly to change. An operating budget of approximately $40 million annually is backed by $65 million in reserves, allowing Indian Wells to implement exciting projects and events.

Indian Wells works closely with the five resort hotels, Indian Wells Golf Resort, Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and the Greater Palm Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau to expand tourism in the City. This position is a unique opportunity to manage marketing and tourism from a local government perspective and operate between the international, national, regional and site- specific level of tourism efforts.

Position

Manages and provides direction in all marketing, public relations, and tourism activities including:

• creating advertising and media programs,
• developing strategic City, Indian Wells Campus and golf marketing plans and programs,
• analyzing market trends and customer needs,
• directing design and content of the City website and TV channel,
• managing internal and external communications,
• planning tourism events.
• managing social media to ensure new and consistent

This position will be responsible for developing and evaluating the effectiveness of a marketing, branding, and communications program that proactively conveys the City’s achievements and successes to both internal and external stakeholders. These programs should strive to identify appropriate messages and communications tools for target audiences. The Director Marketing and Communications supervises one (1) full time employee and reports to the City Manager as part of the Executive Team.

The salary for the Director of Marketing and Communications position is $144,895 - $176,125 DOE. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, public or business administration, or a closely related field. The ideal applicant should have progressively responsible supervisory experience in the marketing or public relations field.
