Manager, Conference Education

The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) seeks an entrepreneurial meetings professional who has successfully developed, managed, and delivered educational programming for adult learners through engaging experiences designed to share knowledge and expertise.   Bring your enthusiasm for museums and apply your strong customer service focus, excellent planning and executing skills towards helping our team produce AAM’s Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo, the largest 3-day convening of museum professionals in the world.

About the position:

The Conference Education Manager develops, designs and delivers conference education at  AAM’s events, conferences, and meetings.  Working with the Director, Meetings and Events, the Manager determines submission guidelines, oversees the session proposal process, integrates adult learning principles, and develops related communication plans and materials.

Additionally, the Conference Education Manager works closely with the National Program Committee (NPC),   which is responsible for the review of over 400 proposals and selection of approximately 150 sessions. This includes coordinating the work of the committee, managing on-site logistics and arrangements for thefall NPC Reviewer meeting; developing  an understanding of museum field issues and staying informed on emerging trends in the field.  Salary is low $60s.

Skills and qualifications:

The successful candidate possesses strong experience with adult learning principles and technologies; experience working with speakers and volunteers with disabilities; proficiency with CadmiumCD or other speaker management systems; Microsoft Office and various database and social media platforms; ability to multi-task and effectively manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines; and ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.

How to apply:  In order to encourage a broad pool of candidates with various backgrounds to apply and to mitigate any potential implicit bias during our review of applications, we are applying some principles of “blind hiring.” Please follow the directions below when submitting your application materials.

·         Submit a cover letter and resume to: hr@aam-us.org, using “Conference Education" in the subject line. Please do not include your name or address on either document.  Please include education but omit school names and graduation years.  Include your email address as the only personal identifier on these documents.

·         As part of your cover letter, please describe how you’ve applied adult learning principles to your education program.  Did you implement an innovative session format? Did you design a learning environment?  Did you take a calculated risk? Did it pay off?  Limit your cover letter to no more than two pages.

Applications received by June 29, 2018 will receive full consideration. Submissions will be reviewed by our hiring team and candidates who are selected for further screening will be contacted by email within two weeks of this deadline.  Due to the large number of applications AAM receives, we can only contact those candidates selected for further screening.
