Manager of Scientific Meetings

The Obesity Society (TOS) is an individual-member based association of approximately 2,500 scientists, researchers, clinicians and academics who are devoted to studying the causes of and finding treatments for the obesity epidemic. TOS is a partner of an annual 5,000 person fall conference called ObesityWeek.


The Manager of Scientific Meetings has primary responsibility for:


1) speaker and abstract management for the Annual Scientific Meeting of The Obesity Society, held at ObesityWeek (www.obesityweek.com) includes managing 3 calls for submissions, related acceptance/rejections and related speaker forms/slide review includes producing abstract book includes supporting volunteer Program Committee

2) planning and execution of TOS Review Course for the ABOM Exam (an ObesityWeek preconference) includes producing book of slides and other handouts includes supporting volunteer Education Committee includes budget management

3) webinar planning and execution (3-8 per year) includes managing outside vendor relationships

4) manage timeline, evaluations and debrief of ObesityWeek

5) support Clinical Committee

6) support Sr. Director of Education and Meetings in all logistics for ObesityWeek, including A/V orders, F&B orders, sign orders, room assignment, and other duties as assigned

7) answer speaker and attendee inquires 8) process reimbursement and honoraria


Successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

1) excellent interpersonal communications skills

2) database fluency - experience with Planstone or other abstract management software preferred

3) highly adept with technology - comfortable with a wide range of technology, including Microsoft Office, WordPress, Adobe, and basic HTML. Experience with webinars a plus.

4) excellent written and verbal communications skills

5) familiarity with ACCME or other form of education accreditation

6) experience supporting volunteer committees

7) editing and publication experience

8) conference planning experience for a conference of 2000+ attendees with multiple concurrent sessions

9) meticulous record keeping


TOS is located one block from the Silver Spring Metro (Red Line). Standard work days are 9am-5pm, with flexible start and end times. Travel: Less than 10%
