Manager, Travel & Events

The Manager, Travel & Events, AMER is responsible for the execution of a portfolio of meetings and events for CFA Institute, specifically focusing on supporting the needs of the Americas region as well as managing a team of professionals. The position will collaborate and contribute to the multi-year strategy for travel and events, including managing risk exposure and mitigation, budgeting, cultural fluency, and customer service standards. The Manager, Travel & Events, Americas will partner with various groups across the organization to deliver a quality experience for stakeholders and is accountable for strengthening consistency, quality, and process efficiency. This role is supported by the Director, Global Events and is highly visible both within and outside of CFA Institute.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, hospitality designation a plus (CMP, CMM, CCTE, GTP, or other)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) management and demonstrated project management skills in a business environment
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in staff management and development
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Substantial experience in project management, with skills necessary to interpret what is needed for the success of a project and to create appropriate schedules for timely delivery
  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of additional languages is helpful
  • Proven ability and experience to manage large events and coordinate with vendors of all industries
  • Provide leadership and coaching to develop and mentor team to succeed in their positions
  • Provide appropriate training and professional development opportunities for all team members
  • Demonstrate ability to take initiative and to work collaboratively; make good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment
  • Display a professional demeanor and polished manner in dealing with senior staff and volunteers and in managing unexpected events and stressful onsite situations
  • Global cultural orientation and working experience
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, listening, and presentation
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with a keen attention to details
  • Flexibility in competently juggling competing priorities and changing expectations; learns quickly when facing new problems; a relentless and versatile learner; open to change; analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement; enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar tasks
  • Experience with contract negotiations and budgeting is required; negotiating skillfully in tough situations with both internal and external groups; can win concessions without damaging relationships; gains trust quickly of other parties to the negotiations; has a good sense of timing
