The American Psychological Association was founded in 1892 with 31 members and grew quickly after World War II. Today, APA is a scientific and professional organization categorized as a 501(c)(3) along with its 501(c)(6) companion organization, APA Services, Inc. APA has nearly 119,00 members comprised of psychologists, students, and affiliates, and 54 divisions in subfields of psychology primarily in the U.S. and Canada but also in other countries around the world. We aspire to excel as a valuable, effective and influential organization advancing psychology as a science. Our strategic goals include elevating the public's understanding of, regard for, and use of psychology and preparing the discipline and profession of psychology for the future.
