Company Profile
International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI)
Company Overview
International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), was founded in 1978 to provide important risk and insurance information to business, legal, risk management, and insurance professionals. In the years since it was founded, IRMI has published the most comprehensive library (45,000+ pages) of practical manuals, books, and newsletters available. IRMI also sponsors seminars and conferences, and the annual IRMI Construction Risk Conference is the premier national symposium devoted exclusively to the management of construction risks. To maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest in its research, IRMI does not offer insurance sales, consulting, expert witness, underwriting, or similar services.
The overriding IRMI editorial philosophy is to stay out of the ivory tower and give you practical information you can use. For this reason, our speakers and contributing authors are usually well-known industry practitioners, and our research staff has many years of insurance and risk management experience. IRMI research analysts take great pride in their meticulously detailed approach to each topic they tackle. For example, they don't just paraphrase policy language; they interpret and explain it. And they don't stop with the standard policy forms; they summarize, analyze, and compare the many variations included in company-developed forms as well as manuscript forms and endorsements. IRMI analyses are so reliable and complete that its publications have been cited as authorities by many appellate courts.
Our product line addresses virtually all facets of insurance and risk management. The Commercial Lines Library analyzes general liability, umbrella liability, business auto, motor carrier, commercial property, inland marine, commercial crime, D&O liability, E&O liability, employment practices liability, and malpractice liability insurance. The IRMI Risk Management Library addresses risk financing and the alternative market, contractual risk transfer, workers compensation law, safety, and claims management. Other IRMI books and references focus on insurance coverage case law developments, specific risk management techniques and practices, risk and insurance developments and trends, and risk management for specific industries. The references comprising these libraries are available in various printed and electronic formats, both individually and in sets.
Our subscriber family is comprised of thousands of insurance agents and brokers, risk managers, adjusters, underwriters, premium auditors, consultants, and attorneys. Most of the "Fortune 1000" corporations, many of America's governmental subdivisions, all the major brokers, the largest insurers, and the most successful independent agencies rely on IRMI references. Over the years, thousands of insurance and risk management professionals from around the world have attended IRMI seminars and conferences. While our subscriber family is largely U.S.-based, IRMI has many supporters in Canada, Europe, Latin America, Japan, South Africa, and other parts of the world.
In summary, IRMI is committed to providing practical and up-to-date information that can help our subscribers succeed in theircareer and guaranteeing these products with friendly, state-of-the-art customer service.
Company History
International Risk Management Institute, Inc., now known as IRMI, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2003. Founded in 1978, IRMI was formed primarily to educate risk managers, agents/brokers, and other insurance professionals through the use of seminars. In conjunction, risk and insurance publications were developed to provide what we felt was much needed information in an evolving industry. So popular were these publications that by the mid-1980s, publishing had become our primary focus.
Today, IRMI publishes the most comprehensive (and, we think, practical) risk and insurance library of any publisher. Our library has expanded to over 45,000 pages and is available in print and via IRMI Online. Our subscriber family encompasses thousands of risk professionals serving all industries in all parts of the world.
IRMI also hosts the award-winning IRMI.com Web site, one of the most visited Web sites for risk professionals. With over 700,000 visitors this year (and that number growing daily), the IRMI.com Web site has broad appeal, providing articles on a wide range of topics. IRMI also offers a number of free e-mail newsletters that serve as companions to our publications. Our flagship e-mail newsletter, IRMI Update, has one of the largest circulations in the property casualty insurance arena with over 31,000 subscribers.
IRMI scaled back its seminars in the late 1980s. However we continued the annual IRMI Construction Risk Conference (previously called the Construction Insurance Conference), and it grew in popularity. Over the years the IRMI Construction Risk Conference has become the premier event for people who manage or insure construction risks, with attendance reaching 1,500.
Throughout the years, our primary goal has always been to help people do a better job of managing risk by giving them the reliable and practical resources they need to improve the way they do business. While IRMI has enjoyed many successes, what makes us proudest is our expanding family of subscribers and learning how we have helped them achieve their business or risk management goals over the years.
